DRINK. EAT. SHOP.

LOCAL!

If you know me at all, you know I am a HUGE advocate of small business. Heck, I've only worked in small businesses my whole life. I have witnessed the hardships and rewards of pursuing the American Dream. By supporting local businesses, you are supporting your community. You are supporting a DREAM.

And that brings me to the subject of my blog today: 2 of my favorite local spots, Mill Creek Brewing Company and Subculture Urban Cuisine & Cafe!

Every Tuesday at Subculture, they have a special on tacos and 2-for-1 draft beers. It's a fantastic deal. They usually have a few different tacos to choose from (which they always post on Instagram), but there is one certain taco offered every week: THE HOT CHICKEN TACO. Yes, you heard me right. It wouldn't be a Nashville establishment without one. But this isn't like anything you've had before. The flavor, the crispness, the slaw that's all wrapped in a soft corn tortilla is truly life changing. And it is HOT, folks. This is not for the faint of heart. You will feel high after eating a taco or two! It's a great feeling.

Make sure you have a cold beverage to go with these bad boys...how about a Mill Creek Woodshed IPA? This is one of my go-to session IPAs because it's dry, citrusy and bright....and only 4.5% abv! I had no idea this was "sessionable" when I had my first can because it has such flavor. Sometimes a session IPA can fall short for me, but not this one. Subculture always has great local beers on tap, and Woodshed was the one I finally decided on!

Did the beer & food pair well together?

IPAs are a wonderful pairing to spicy foods. The hop profile can add depth of flavor while the bitterness acts as a "cooling" agent to your flaming tastebuds. So this pairing was no exception! Citrusy, tropical hop notes add another dimension of flavor to the savory, sweet heat of the crispy chicken. The bitterness helps calm the flames while the dryness of the malt profile cleanses the palate. I did have a glass of water too...because I am more of a wuss when it comes to heat! But the pairing was stellar. I would do it again!

These pictures are making me hungry again!

Can't wait for next #TacoTuesday :)

What meal pairings are you excited about this week?
Let me know!

Have a great week, ya'll!

Cheers,
